We are looking at possibly moving our family to Gibson City,Illinois.
We visited some friends there back in July and we really loved it.
We plan to rent until my husband can find a good job. He’s 42 and tired of the job he’s had for the last 15 years here in Birmingham. He makes about $20.00 an hour here and they said he can have the job back if he returns within a year. ( if Illinois doesn’t work out)
So nothing is permanant. We’re trying it out. Might have to buy medical insurance privately if it’s not good through employment.
QUESTION:
How hostile are the local schooling officials towards homeschoolers? We’ve homeschooled here in Alabama for 15 years without any problems.
If a school official gave us a hard time in Illinois, we’d high-tail it OUT of Illinois. Although their laws are rated green by HSLDA, I hear rumors that they pester as much as they can before forced to back off.
Should we use an rv for a few months in Illinois to avoid being considered a resident? Instead of renting? Maybe they wouldn’t bother us if they think we’re just vacationing there?
Thanks,
Clare
Yes, we've been HSLDA members for 9 years now.
No, just like Alabama. I live in Al and my moms side of the fam is from IL and so i know about the state. They pretty much let you do your thing, but if you dont get your credits, no graduating, just like AL.

Just follow the law in Illinois and you should be fine. Are you an HSLDA member? If not I would join them for a year just in case they do give you trouble. If they do cause trouble don’t hesitate to call HSLDA they will make them back off pretty quickly.
